European Bathing Water Report

June 2012

The European Commission published its annual report on the quality of Europe's bathing waters at the end of May. Over 92% of bathing waters in the EU now meet the minimum standards set for them by the 2006 Bathing Water Directive - and 77% of them were found to be of "excellent" quality.

The report covers bathing sites in both coastal waters and in rivers and lakes. Two thirds of those tested were in coastal waters.
